Careers and Education Business Partnership has appointed Mike Bell as chief executive. Mr Bell is currently senior operations manager at Birmingham and Solihull TEC, takes up his new post in December.

Marion Matchett has become the first woman chief inspector of schools in Northern Ireland. Ms Matchett has been a lecturer at Stramillis College and is a founder member of the Craigavon Area’s first teachers’ centre.

Kevin Cheney has succeeded Simon Cummins as headmaster of Millfield Preparatoy school, Surrey. Mr Cheney is currently head of Cranmore Preparatory school.

The national childcare charity, Daycare Trust has appointed PR Consultant Stephen Burke as its new director. Mr Burke succeeds Colette Kelleher who is now an adviser on early years development and childcare partnerships at the Department for Education and Employment.

Kate Myers, (right) professor of professional development at Keele University, is to be visiting professor at Homerton College, Cambridge.
