ALL change at West Sussex County Council, where senior education officials are moving around at dizzying speed. Robert Back, former deputy director in Staffordshire, is the new director of education, replacing Dick Bunker, who retired last month after 17 years in the post. Deputy director David Monger has just announced his departure to work for consultants WS Atkins. Chief adviser Ken Pritchard has therefore postponed his retirement to become acting deputy.

JOHN Michael Davies, director of BT Wales, has been appointed a member of the National Council for Education and Training in Wales for three years. Six new members have been appointed to the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, also for three years. They are: Dr Len Arthur, Professor Richard B Davies, Perminder Dhillon, Professor Angela V John, Tim Rees, and Tina Stephens.
