Jane Sheldrake will take over the headship of Lilian Baylis School, Lambeth, in September. Formerly acting head of Milford Haven comprehensive, south Wales, she was closely involved in its transition from a grammar to a comprehensive. As a passionate advocate of new technology, she is looking forward to the school’s successful application for technology status. “Technology has the power to maximise achievement and to make learning fun,” says Ms Sheldrake. She succeeds Yvonne Bates, the acting head, who has now moved to Sir Frederic Osborn school in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.

Nicholas Robinson (right) has been appointed as the head of King’s College Choir School, Cambridge. The 41-year-old mathematics teacher, founder and conductor of two orchestras is currently a housemaster at Worth School, Crawley, West Sussex. He will take up his appointment in September and succeeds Andrew Corbett, who is leaving to become head of Homewood House in Kent.

Ealing local education authority has appointed its first assistant director for lifelong learning, who will also be responsible for the council’s community and cultural services. Howard Shepherdson, 44, who is being promoted from head of personnel development, has taught in schools inLondon, Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Shepherdson has worked for the West London Industry Partnership linking schools and industry in Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea.
