Question 3f in the national curriculum consultation did, indeed, attract massive support.
Nearly three-quarters of the 1,801 schools and other consultees answering this question agreed with the proposal to make food compulsory at key stage 3, despite possible resource implications for a small number of schools.
The proposal was supported in written submissions from the major subject associations, including the Design and Technology Association.
On what basis did the Secretary of State decide to ignore such strength of feeling? If there is an educational rationale, I would be interested to know it.
