Wigan pupils last week had a chance to visit the first school to be built in the borough for 30 years.

Students from the newly built Abraham Guest High School looked round the #163;23 million building. The visit was of particular significance because the students had helped to play a part in its design.

The school is Wigan’s first pathfinder school, part of the region’s #163;80 million Building Schools for the Future programme.

Due to open after the Easter break, the school was chosen for the Government’s Project Faraday, which aims to design more innovative science classrooms.

The school will also act as a hub for the community, with the local primary school Orrell Lamberhead Green Community Primary sharing the site. rv.
