Seaham Comprehensive in County Durham has had a good year. Last Friday Sheila Carney, a maths teacher, was handed the keys of an Pounds 8,000 Rover 100 Knightsbridge by Phillip Crawley, managing director of The TES. And the day before, the school learned it had won Pounds 10,000 in a BT 2001 Challenge competition.
Mrs Carney, who has taught maths at Seaham for 16 years, was among more than 5,000 people who entered the TES Win-a-Car competition in September. “Everyone at school was ecstatic,” she said.
About 100 Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils were involved in the BT competition.
They had to submit written and audio-visual work on three themes: “It’s good to talk”, the classroom of 2001 and communications in 2001.
