In recognition of the growing uptake of Chinese in schools and to celebrate the European Day of Languages last month CILT, the National Centre for Languages, has teamed up with Oxford University Press to give teachers the chance to win 15 Pocket Oxford Chinese dictionaries for their class.

The dictionaries include:

* up-to-date vocabulary, including bio- terrorism, e-shopping, WAP phone, domain name and SARS;

* simplified characters, with orthodox characters for reference and Pinyin forms for each Chinese entry;

* Mandarin pronunciations shown throughout for the 90,000 words and phrases and 130,000-plus translations.

Competition closes October 26. l www.cilt.org.ukedloup.htm
