Have you been paying attention? As part of its millennium celebrations, The TES is offering a pound;1,000 prize to the winner of an easy-to-enter quiz. All you need to do is answer the following three questions: 1) Who was the famous headteacher who wrote to The TES to ask for help with a maths problem?

2) What sort of rail ticket did elementary school inspectors have to buy in the 1930s?

3) What was the name of the 15th-century recluse who compiled the first English-to-Latin dictionary?

(All the answers can be found within this TES Millennium Edition.) The prize will be awarded to the sender of the first correct entry opened. Deadline: Friday, January 28. Normal TSLEducation rules apply. Answers on a postcard to: Millennium Competition, The TES, Admiral House, 66-68 East Smithfield, London E1W 1BX.

The winner’s name will be published in the February 4 issue.
