The Atticmedia Learning Bursary worth pound;15,000 is on offer to the school that devises the best interactive project in partnership with their favourite museum. If you have grand ideas about e-learning in your school but lack the time or the budget to see it through, this could be the competition for you.

Most museums have their own websites but Atticmedia is turning convention on its head by encouraging schools to partner up with museums to create a new website or CD-Rom. The project should not only provide e-learning opportunities for students but also create closer links with museums and other educational attractions. Atticmedia produces digital content for a number of organisations including the DfES, the BBC and Espresso and will provide resources and technical and design expertise to the tune of pound;15,000 to the winning school. The company will translate the winners’ ideas and materials into multimedia content for a 30-page website, 20-minute CD Rom or other interactive resource and staff will work with students to help them enhance their ICT skills.

Although the winning idea should be both innovative and have long-lasting appeal, the project can focus on any aspect of their chosen museum. Schools could focus on a particular exhibition, create a project around a school visit or even create a subject trail.

The winning school must demonstrate how they will work with their chosen museum, support pupils to produce materials for the project and how the final product will benefit museum visitors, the local community as well as the school itself.

This is the first year of the Atticmedia Learning Bursary and the company plans to make the competition an annual event. “We want to support learning by giving a schools the opportunity to develop a professional product with our guidance,” explains head of learning at Atticmedia Carolyn Royston. She continues: “We hope schools will produce something that is of benefit to the local community and that the bursary will encourage schools to work in partnership with their local museums, libraries and archives.”

To enter, send one A4 sheet with your idea or concept together with full contact details for the school and museum to: Carolyn Royston, Atticmedia, 34 Waterside, 44-48 Wharf Road, London N1 7UX or bursary@atticmedia.com.

The closing date for entries is Friday, December 10 and an independent panel of judges will choose a winner during a ceremony in London on January 24, 2005.
