Oscar and the Frog, a science book for children by Geoff Waring, has won an English Association prize. The book topped the key stage 1 non-fiction category for illustrated children’s books. Other awards went to Mia’s Story by Michael Foreman (KS1 fiction), Pick Me Up: Stuff You Need to Know by David Roberts and Jeremy Leslie (KS2 non-fiction) and The Lost Happy Endings by Carol Ann Duffy, illustrated by Jane Ray (KS2 fiction).

The judges gave a special award to the “silent” graphic novel The Arrival by Shaun Tan, about an immigrant arriving in a new country.
