Winning teacher faces discipline action over union election e mails

A TEACHER elected junior vice-president of the National Union of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers faces two disciplinary motions over his use of union e-mail during his election campaign.

Peter Butler, president of the Bedfordshire branch, the first rank-and-file member to be elected to national office, i due to take up his post at the annual conference in Llandudno later this month but he now faces disciplinary action.

If found guilty, Mr Butler, a teacher at Priory middle school, Dunstable, could be barred from office. Mr Butler, who was elected by a majority of more than 4,000, denied the claim.
