Teachers at beacon schools will be able to collaborate online with colleagues anywhere in Britain using Internet technology being tested at 50 beacon schools. If the trial is successful, the Department for Education and Employment is expected to extend IBM’s Wied for Learning to Britain’s 1,000-plus beacon schools over the next two years. The system is tailored to the needs of each school and allows teachers to share best practice and create lesson plans and projects.
