Wirral appeals on selection ruling;In brief

WIRRAL Council, which has a selective secondary system, has been given leave by the High Court for a judicial review to challenge the Schools Adjudicator’s decision that the council’s admissions policy is unfair. Governors of St Mary’s College, Wallasey, objected to the policy, saying it gave parents of able children an unfair advantage. To the surprise of the council, the adjudicator decided that the policy was lawful, but unfair. The case, the first against the adjudicator’s ruling, is due to be heard next Monday.
