Women continue to outnumber men on further education college and work-based learning courses - except for those under 20. The sector catered for 299,690 learners in 2004-05, with most studying part-time, according to new statistics. The most popular subjects were care, information technology, and health. Only 2 per cent of learning took place entirely or in part through Welsh.
