CHRIS Woodhead, the Chief Inspector, has been asked to apologise to staff who resigned after two critical inspection reports.
All 12 teachers at Moor Lane junior school in Chessington, south-west London, decided to quit after the second damning inspection within a year.
The school’s constituency MP, Ed Davey, a Liberal Democrat, said national test results out this week, showed the school’s 11-year-olds achieved national average or better in English and science. He said inspectos were wrong and Mr Woodhead should apologise.
In April 1999, inspectors from the education watchdog reported that the school had “serious weaknesses”. After a visit last month the Office for Standards in Education told head Jane Wright that “insufficient progress had been made”.
She announced she was retiring earlier this year. School governors and the LEA have found a new head and deputy for next term and were holding interviews for eight teaching posts this week.
