THOSE in search of excitement during the party political conference season may have to join the Conservatives in Blackpool. State-educated William Hague is likely to follow tradition by rallying the faithful to save the country’s remaining grammars.

It is also the only political conference to lure Chris Woodhead into an increasingly rare public appearance. The chief inspector is the star attraction on the fringe where he is due to debate with Theresa May, the party’s new education spokeswoman.
