Looking up words or place names in a Welsh-English dictionary is tricky. This is because of Welsh ‘mutations’, the changes that the initial letter of a word can undergo depending on its function in the sentence or on the word that precedes it. The Basic Skills Agency is issuing useful pocket-sized Mutations Cards, giving examples of each. Changes are clearly shown in colour, so learners won’t confuse their Gwynedd with their Ngwynedd. Mutations Cards (Order Code A1669) cost 50p per packet of 10 from the Basic Skills Agency, Admail 524, London WC1A 1BR.
