Work-based awards ‘impress less’;In Brief

Employers remain more impressed by academic success than work-based qualifications, the Institute of Directors said this week.

The study found that 80 per cent of employers believed in GCSEs and A-levels, but their confidence fell when asked about vocational courses.

The IoD said that vocational qualifications would earn greater respect if marking standards were tightened and coursework made more relevant.
