College lecturers are more likely to take time off sick than any other workers, according to an annual survey of work-life balance led by Professor Les Worrall of Coventry University.

A survey of 1,898 people in the public and private sectors found that FE staff took an average of 14.1 days off sick, followed by bank staff, taking 12 days.

However, the report concluded that absence through ill-health was not necessarily caused by long hours or workload, with people in some industries working many hours over their contract but not reporting stress or calling in sick.
