Gordon Brown’s claim that this generation has the power to abolish world poverty comes under scrutiny in a richly varied resource pack from Save the Children. Beat Poverty contains materials for children of 10 upwards. Two young Ghanaians present a powerful video in which they investigate conditions in their own country, interviewing doctors, teachers and other children to find out why people remain poor in a rich world. Posters present the stories of other young people whose chances are already constrained. Thoughtful lesson plans develop the debate. Beat Poverty is available from www.beatpoverty.org and www.savethechildren.org.ukeducation or from The Education Unit, Save the Children, 17 Grove Lane, London SE5 8RD.
