THERE is still time to enter the Write Here, Write Now 2002 writing awards for Years 4 and 5. A teacher’s pack containing material from professional writers and poets for work in the literacy hour, can also be used in the wider curriculum or in out-of-school clubs that focus on writing. Children are asked to use opening lines written by Jacqueline Wilson, John Hegley or Terry Jones as a starting point for their entries. Newsround presenter Lizo Mzimba provides the introduction for group entries. Prizes include computers, CD-ROMs, book vouchers, publication of entries in a special book and the chance to be filmed for BBC Schools’ television. The closing date for entries is Friday, July 19, 2002. For details, or to order a teacher’s pack, call 01634 729825, or visit www.writehere.org.uk
