Budding Shakespeares could see their plays brought to life by entering a nationwide writing competition. London’s Royal Court Theatre is looking for fresh talent to take part in its Young Writers’ Festival 2004.

Entrants must be aged between 13 and 26 and their work should include characters and stories that will challenge and engage an audience.

Scripts can range from five-minute readings to full plays.

Each entry will be assessed by a panel of judges, who will invite the most promising writers to the Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square to develop their play and have it professionally produced in the autumn. But playwrights need to hurry as the deadline for entries is January 31.www.royalcourttheatre.com
