I AM intrigued that it is considered elitist to propose ways to enrich teachers’ experience of the arts during their initial training and subsequent professional development (TES, July 23).

I am more a boringly pragmatic middle-of-the-roadster, who wants all children to be literate and numerate as early as possible, and to have access to and involvement in high-quality arts throughout their school career. Nothing Sixties about that.
