To mark the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Richard Woolfenden, an English teacher based in London, has organised a Schools’ Anti-War Writing Competition. Children (aged 13-18) may enter stories, essays and poems expressing “their thoughts and feelings about our war-torn world”. Prizes include a day out in London, book tokens and Japanese writing packs. The judges include Germaine Greer, Adrian Mitchell and John Pilger. The closing date for entries is May 29.
