Your “news in brief” report headed “Careers advice proves useless” (TES, March 31) is seriously misleading.
The UCAS Card survey on which it was based blurred whether students had no access to a careers adviser, had access but made no use of one, or used one and found him or her of no help. It seems likely that many who said that their careers adviser was of no help fell into the first two groups. The important issue that needs researching is the extent to which, since the advent of Connexions, applicants to higher education now have ready access to a trained careers adviser.
