I READ with dismay your article about York Minster axing its education officer (TES, April 21).
For the past nine years the Centre for School Visits at York has been at the forefront of cathedral education. It has served as a model of good practice and been copied throughout the country.
What is happening in York causes me great sadness, ot least as it is being linked to budget cuts. School visits to Chester Cathedral, where I work, are free. The cost is borne willingly by the Dean and Chapter, and reflects the high priority that is given to them by some Christian leaders.
