Frank Pignatelli is to be succeeded as chief executive of Learndirect Scotland by Damien Yeates, currently chief executive of the Govan Initiative in Glasgow.

Govan Initiative is a local economic development company responsible for regenerating the economy of the Greater Govan area of Glasgow, focusing on employability, education, and training and support.

Among its initiatives have been the creation of the Hills Trust Academy and the first Cisco Community Networking Academy in Europe. Mr Yeates has helped initiate a number of programmes to promote skills and lifelong learning, including the Digital Media Academy, the Community Technology Academy Network and the Blended Learning of Construction Skills (Blocs) programme.

Learndirect Scotland is the brand name for the Scottish University for Industry whose core mission is to encourage a more competitive economy and a more inclusive society through education.
