Some have remained in currency for years, such as the classics "Miss, Miss, Miss!", "This is boring!" and "Can I go toilet?" Others drop in and out of fashion.
Teachers on the TES online staffroom have been listing the latest. Among the new entries are two variations on "You're having a laugh": "You're having a giraffe" and, more bafflingly, "You're having my life".
Other popular irritants include "Oh my daaays" and "That's just so random".
But the most annoying? More than two years after their television debut, catchphrases from Little Britain ("Eh eh eh") and The Catherine Tate Show ("Bovvered?") remain surprisingly - and irritatingly - popular.
