Everyone with an interest in writing, understanding and promoting young adult fiction - teachers and librarians as well as authors, publishers and critics - is welcome at Turning Point, a one-day conference at Nottingham Trent University on November 27 put together by novelist and former English teacher David Belbin (pictured), who also runs Nottingham Trent’s MA course in creative writing. It’s not intended for young teenage readers themselves, and participants have to be over 18.
Panel discussions on “What is Young Adult Fiction?” and “The Death of the Issue Novel” sound promising. Melvin Burgess is keynote speaker; guest authors include Anne Cassidy, who has just won the Booktrust Teenage Prize (see news story, main paper, page 16) for her novel about the rehabilitation of a child killer, Looking for JJ.
