ITALY Education minister Luigi Berlingeur wants children to start school at five. At present the starting age is six, as in most other European countries, but about 95 per cent of children attend pre-school from three. Berlingeur believes five-year-olds get bored in the last year of nursery school and are ready to begin formal education.
