Kirroughtree Forest near Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway is the latest mountain biking destination in Scotland. Novice and expert riders are catered for on a new network of trails totalling 43km (26.7 miles).

Trails suitable for school groups include the 6km (3.7 miles) green route Bargaly Wood and the blue route Larg Hill which is 8km (4.9 miles).

Kirroughtree is part of the 7stanes project to establish mountain bike centres across southern Scotland. Other centres in the project include Mabie and Dalbeattie forests in Dumfries and Galloway and Glentress forest and Innerleithen in the Tweed Valley. For further details, go to www.7stanes.gov.uk.
