AMERICAN pupils can earn $500 to $1,000 (pound;328-pound;656) if they tell on classmates who carry guns to school or make verbal or written threats of violence. The rewards are offered by a private organisation in Arizona but come with the blessing of school administrators. Funded bythe proceeds of vending machines, they have begun to offer their own pay-offs. One 18-year-old told the Arizona Republic newspaper: “I would turn someone in for $1,000. They’re threatening my life, so I might as well turn them in and get some money for it, too.”
