You’re all invited to our party

You can tell it’s the job hunting season here in the nest of The TES website where I work. Our online forums are heaving with your questions and anxieties about applications, interviews, and the whole messy business of bagging your first teaching post.

This job hunting special issue of First Appointments is packed with the information you need to sell yourself to schools. If, like the Welsh teachers on page 14, you have to move around the UK to get work, you might like to know that Scotland wants you. Could you hack it up in the highlands? Find out what Scottish schools are looking for, and what makes the Scots tick, on page 16. And if you are still finessing your interview outfit, compare your look with our First Appointments volunteers, and read what one recruitment expert has to say about wardrobe style.

It can’t be all work, though. First Appointments is throwing a party in London just after Easter so that you PGCE and BEd students, graduate trainees and newly qualifieds can meet up, get to know each other, talk school, or avoid talking school, whichever you prefer, and hopefully make some new friends. If a few of you would like to eye each other up with a nod to potential romance, that’ll be good too. Details are on page 19. Let us know before March 25 if you’d like to join us on April 23 as numbers are limited, on firstappointments@tes.co.uk

We’re looking forward to meeting you!
