North Lanarkshire Council has joined forces with Cumbernauld Theatre to line up more than 40 arts events in its Youth Arts Festival 2003, from January 31 to February 15.

The events - a balance of spectatorial and participatory - will take place in the main theatres in Cumbernauld and Motherwell and in 10 venues from Moodiesburn to Shotts. They include pop concerts, a battle of the bands, DJ skills, drumming, musical theatre, dance, video skills, art media, design and make-up, circus skills, poetry and drama, both as performance and workshops.

Cumbernauld Theatre is the focus for the drama programme, with its own youth theatre’s production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible sharing the stage with North Lanarkshire Youth Theatre and the Lyceum Youth Theatre.

The drama programme culminates on the last night of the festival with Fires within Fires, a collaborative project by teenagers from Singapore’s Necessary Stage Company and Cumbernauld Theatre working on themes from Miller’s play.
