As Fiona Hyslop, Culture Minister, took to the floor to launch the Get Scotland Dancing campaign, Scottish Ballet announced “a fresh new performance course” for young dancers, Scottish Ballet Youth Collective. Weekly classes from October 18 combine ballet and contemporary dance techniques with performance and creative skills, including voice, choreography and drama. SBYC members can meet Scottish Ballet dancers, musicians, choreographers and the technical team. Small Steps for P6-7 pupils and Leaps and Bounds for S1-4 require one year’s dance experience. In Motion, for S5-6, requires two. The Scottish Ballet website for teachers and pupils from P1 to Higher contains careers information, resources, curriculum-based activities, interviews and games.
