Worldskills Uk Live To Be Hosted Online

WorldSkills UK has moved its annual landmark skills event online and will host a virtual live skills show in November, it has been announced.

The two-day online event will involve careers guidance, the diversity and inclusion heroes awards and inspirational key notes including one from the Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain.

WorldSkills UK Live normally takes place at the NEC in Birmingham, and also includes the finals of the national skills competitions, but had to be cancelled earlier this year due to Coronavirus.

Ben Blackledge, the deputy chief executive, WorldSkills UK said:  “We know that young people are being disproportionally impacted by this pandemic which is why earlier this year we set out our commitment to digitise our offering. Today’s announcement further builds on that commitment and will enable us to support more and more young people to achieve higher standards.

“WorldSkills UK Live online is part of our ambition to lead the way in inspiring and developing world-class skills and tackle vocational snobbery head on.  We want to help create more prestige for apprenticeships and technical qualifications to boost career aspirations as we know that highly skilled, motivated young people will be crucial to the economic recovery of the UK.”

The event will also include an international skills summit which will bring industry leaders together to explore how global standards of excellence can be mainstreamed in skills policy and practice across the UK.
