The Pre-School Learning Alliance’s grant from the Department of Health is to be cut by Pounds 510,000 over the next three years, despite a 1995 DoH report which recommended additional funding because its regional offices were at “near breaking point”.
The charity, which has 20,000 pre-schools in its membership in England and receives core funding of Pounds 420,000 per year from the department, is writing to Health Secretary Stephen Dorrell urging him to reconsider the decision.
