Scotland's largest educational event of the year begins next week and is expected to attract more than 4,500 teachers and other professionals. The Scottish Learning Festival, organised by Education Scotland and the Scottish government, with TESS as media partner, has the theme Creative Learning . Creative Thinking, and runs on Wednesday and Thursday at the SECC in Glasgow.

On offer is a programme of inspirational speakers from sailor Dame Ellen MacArthur, the fastest person to circumnavigate the globe single-handedly, to education secretary Michael Russell. There will also be more than 100 professional development seminars, round-table discussions and access to the largest education exhibition in Scotland, featuring 120 exhibitors.

The exhibition hall is also home to the Scottish Education Village, which brings together the Scottish government, Scottish Qualifications Authority and Education Scotland. Visitors will be able to speak with staff from all the agencies about their work.

The village includes the Education Showcase, where Scotland's councils will make presentations on innovative and exciting practice in their areas. Following demonstrations, delegates will be able to find out more by visiting the Local Authority Village.

Also within the Scottish Education Village is the Learning in Practice area, which brings together the local, national, international and cultural dimensions of SLF. Here delegates will find the Cultural Village, where resources and services designed to develop knowledge and understanding of Scotland's culture will be showcased. Creative Scotland, the national body for Scotland's arts, screen and creative industries, will demonstrate how to put arts, culture and creativity at the heart of learning, while the Global Citizenship Village will highlight activity going on in Scotland's schools, including best practice in citizenship, sustainable development education, international education, games legacy and outdoor learning.
