Manufacturing is dirty and dull

Children are avoiding careers in manufacturing because they think it is “hard work, dirty and boring”. The Manufacturing Foundation, an independent think-tank, found only one in 25 pupils wants to work in manufacturing.

Only 10 per cent had done work experience in manufacturing but most enjoyed it. The finding, outlined in a report entitled Manufacturing Our Future, is based on a survey of 1,770 children aged between 11 and 15.
