Only 10 per cent had done work experience in manufacturing but most enjoyed it. The finding, outlined in a report entitled Manufacturing Our Future, is based on a survey of 1,770 children aged between 11 and 15.
Children are avoiding careers in manufacturing because they think it is "hard work, dirty and boring". The Manufacturing Foundation, an independent think-tank, found only one in 25 pupils wants to work in manufacturing.
