Name: Anthony Isaacs, consultant endocrinologist at Chelsea and Westminster health authority Position: foundation governor, Hendon secondary school, London borough of Barnet Q If you had David Blunkett’s budget what would your priority be?

A Restoring free state education at all levels including the abolition of tuition fees and provision of decent maintenance grants for higher education. I’d also take what measures were needed to ensure that unavoidable financial pressures on schools such as teaches’ pay awards and major new national initiatives such as new sixth-form courses were centrally funded.

Q If you had a blank cheque for your own school what would you buy?

A I’d spend money investing in staff numbers and training and in general renovation and refurbishment.

Q What treat would you buy yourself?

A A three-day weekend every week.

Anthony Isaacs was talking to Reva Klein. If you’d like to publish a shopping list for education, please e-mail friday@tes.co.uk
