Farmers in Leicestershire

12th January 2007 at 00:00
(Photograph) - Farmers in Leicestershire will be the first in the UK to tender to supply food directly to schools. Council leaders want schools to buy food for dinners from local farmers to improve pupils' health and boost the rural economy. They will be encouraged to buy supplies from nearby farms when the contracts with private suppliers expire next year. Photograph:Helen KingCorbis
