Almost all (97 per cent) trainee teachers are confident their training has prepared them well for life in the classroom, according to research for the General Teaching Council for England.
An overwhelming majority (93 per cent) expect to be in the profession in five years’ time - up from 83 per cent when they started training, according to the interim findings of the six-year Becoming a Teacher project.
But one in six of more than 3,000 trainees questioned expressed doubts about their course, and many admitted teaching was harder than they expected.
