The Public Records Office has offered up a treasure trove on Edwardian life by putting the 1901 census online. But huge public demand means that access to the site is limited at peak times. At one point 1.2 million people tried to log on at the same time. When you do get through you can delve into early 20th-century life in England and Wales, or check out the online exhibition - 1901: living at the time of the census.
The 1901 census can be accessed through the main Public Records Office website at www.pro.gov.uk
