David Almond spent his childhood on the edge of the countryside in Northumberland, where he still lives.
His first book, Skellig, has been adapted for stage and screen and his latest, The Fire-Eaters, has won both the Smarties Prize and the Whitbread Children’s Book of the Year 2003.
