POLICE are investigating allegations of widespread sexual abuse of children in Lancashire.

The abuse claims centre on children’s homes, residential schools and care establishments.

Detective Inspector Steve Marston, one of the officers leading the inquiry, said it would try to stablish if there had been a history of institutionalised sexual abuse in the county.

The investigation will concentrate on alleged offenders who are still working with children or operating in the care environment. It is not yet clear how many institutions are involved.
