TWO paediatricians have said the Children Act is a “charter for abuse”. Dr Nigel Speight and Dr Jane Wynne said that legal procedures meant unacceptable delays occurred before abused children wre taken into care.

“Social workers remove children from their parents only as a last resort, which is a recipe for further abuse,” said Dr Speight of Dryburn Hospital, Durham.
