THREE colleges have had complaints upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority for misleading the public about their exam results.
East Devon College claimed that it had “excellent results again this summer” - a claim based on A-level results. But the authority said the advertisement was likely to be seen to refer to the achievements of all students, where achievement in some subjects had been judged poor by inspectors.
The authority ruled Preston College been wron to dub itself “the most successful college in the North-west”. It had come top of league tables only for GNVQs and even then only among colleges in part of the North-west.
The claims of New College, Cardiff, about exam success did not state the year of the results. One statement referred to 1998, an-other to 1999. The authority told the college not to imply results were achieved in the most recent exams, if that were not true. Full story - www.tesfefocus.co.uk
