KS4: Set a design problem for a graphics project, the production of a visual presentationcampaign to encourage the donation of blood. Perhaps dramatise it as a storyboard showing the stages in an accident. Integrate lettering with visual images and use groups of pupils in drama lessons to develop the scenario, recording each frame with a digital camera for later manipulation. Final presentation: an animation on videotape.
KS5: Contrast Goya (“The shootings of May Third 1808”, 1814) and Ben Shahn (“Pacific Landscape”, 1945) with Kiki Smith (“Train”, 1994) and the Guerilla Art Action Group (“Blood Bath”, an action carried out in 1969) to stimulate debate about ways in which artists have sensationally used blood to highlight social and political issues.
