Is there room, alongside The Seeing Stone, by Kevin Crossley-Holland, for another book about Arthur? The answer is an emphatic yes.

Robert Leeson’s Arthurian world in The Song of Arthur (Walker pound;9.99) is harsher and more pagan than the one normally portrayed. The economic, saga-like syle adheres to sources which predate Sir Thomas Malory’s version. There is no Sir Galahad in this version - indeed, no chivalrous knights at all, just various warriors fighting the good fight. The result is a fascinating and convincing alternative perspective for Years 5 and 6.
