Rather than simply teaching children how to write, most teachers would prefer to offer them a means to become writers by choice. Children’s Writing Journals is a 48-page booklet showing how it might happen. The children whose work is cited were enabled to find a personal writing voice.
Their journals were sometimes written collaboratively, sometimes privately.
They could abandon unprofitable themes or explore areas in which they had special interest or expertise. Some pupils added illustrations to complement their writing or became involved in editing and revising. The results are vivid and encouraging.
